Blood donation in Kazakhstan: payments, leave and the honorary donor badge

Blood donation helps people who need transfusions. Public explanations sometimes confuse meal compensation with earnings, a badge with an order of honour, or another country’s benefits with Kazakhstan’s rules. This guide separates the main payments and guarantees.

Who can donate?

Under Articles 206–207 of the Health Code, a donor must be an adult who has undergone medical examination and has no contraindications. The blood service makes the final eligibility decision. Disclose illnesses and treatment rather than concealing them to obtain admission or an award.

Readers with chronic conditions should not treat this article as medical clearance to donate. Ask a blood centre first. If donation is unsuitable, helping organise an event, share information or support donors remains valuable. The Republican Blood Centre is a useful starting point.

What payments apply in 2026?

Order No. ҚР ДСМ-111/2020 regulates the amounts. After a completed unpaid donation, a person chooses food or its cash equivalent of 0.25 monthly calculation indices (MRP). At an MRP of KZT 4,325, the arithmetic equivalent is KZT 1,081.25; confirm the actual settlement procedure with the centre. This is meal compensation, rather than payment for blood.

Paid donation is a separate arrangement depending on the blood service’s needs and the Order’s criteria. Basic examples include a single blood donation of the prescribed volume at 2 MRP, or KZT 8,650; plasma through the specified double plasmapheresis procedure at 4 MRP, or KZT 17,300; and one prescribed platelet dose through apheresis at 1 MRP, or KZT 4,325. Other component types have different rates.

Not everyone attending can choose a tariff and expect payment. Medical eligibility, donation type and volume, invitation and the organisation’s needs matter. Clarify the conditions beforehand. Meal compensation is not provided when donation does not take place.

Workplace guarantees

Article 208 provides release from work for examination and donation on working days while retaining average pay. Following an unpaid donation, an additional paid rest day is provided; it may be added to annual leave and the guarantee operates within one year. There is no additional day if donation did not take place.

Notify the employer in advance, obtain the supporting certificate and arrange the rest day in writing. Do not simply fail to attend work without completing the process. If a guarantee is refused, request the written grounds and retain the blood centre’s records.

How to obtain the “Құрметті донор” badge

This is a departmental honorary badge, rather than an order of honour. A July 2026 report announcing its establishment lists unpaid donation thresholds of at least 40 blood and/or platelet donations, or at least 70 plasma donations. Mixed donation types require separate clarification; do not simply add every procedure together.

Start with the centre holding your donor record. Request confirmation of donation numbers and types, check records from other centres and ask about nomination for the award. Reaching a numerical threshold and actually receiving the badge are separate steps.

Does the badge bring a separate payment?

The donation payment provisions cited here do not justify promising every badge holder a monthly donor pension or the annual payment available under Russian rules. If special financial support is advertised, ask for the current Kazakhstan legal act and eligibility conditions. Donation payments, retained salary and an honorary award must be considered separately.
